Male Yeast Infections

While it’s not uncommon to hear two women discussing a yeast infection, less likely is hearing two men discussing a similar occurrence.

Usually thought to be a ‘woman’s problem’, yeast infections are very likely to also occur in some males. It is a greatly overlooked problem and thus, often goes undiagnosed.

Most men will go throughout their entire lives without ever knowing that they have a candida or fungal infection since it is so hard to detect them. They also experience different symptoms than women classically do, therefore making it not as noticeable. Usually it takes the infection to cause other issues with their health for them to take notice that something is wrong and to detect that it is actually a yeast infection at work. Images Click HERE.

Additionally, men can also get a yeast infection from their partner so if their wife or girlfriend is experiencing one, it is important they look at themselves as well to see if maybe they also have the condition.

The bad thing about this situation is that if the infection is spread during sex, the male’s urethra will be exposed to the fungus and could travel up the urethral canal to the prostate gland.

Another way men can develop a yeast infection is through drinking large quantities of beer. Since beer is made from yeast, it will enter their system this way and could develop into skin yeast on their reproductive organ. Since the temperature in this area of the body is ideal for keeping the infection dormant, again it can go unnoticed for a considerable period of time.

They may also then transmit the yeast infection to their wife or girlfriend through sexual intercourse, where it will travel up the vaginal canal, which is an ideal environment for which the fungus can grow.

For some males, they will notice that the skin on their sexual organ is beginning to look dry and may even been cracking, which then can lead them to suspect a yeast infection may be at work. This may also be incredibly painful for the male, thus further prompting him to seek treatment as soon as possible.

The other causes of yeast infections in males are the use of antibiotics, wheat products, corn products, peanuts, barley as well as a generally weak immune system.

When men experience a yeast infection, usually the typical symptoms that are seen are: – constipation
– bad breath
– feelings of bloat
– indigestion
– intestinal gas
– diarrhea
– sexual dysfunction
– being irritable
– suffering from wide mood swings
– feelings of lack of energy
– problems associated with memory
– jock itch
– dry flaky skin
– athletes foot

The infected male may also start to develop cravings for carbohydrate rich foods since this is what the yeast will typically feed off of. (click HERE for healthy alternatives).

If you have an intestinal or systemic yeast infection, you will go about treating this just as you would any other fungal infection.

If the yeast infection is located on the sexual organ however, then you will need to use a specialty product. One option is called Lotrimin, which can be purchased from your local pharmacy. Another popular choice is Aceium, which works very well for skin yeast problems.

Some males like to try a more natural approach and use herbs as a way to manage the condition. In this situation one common choice is grapefruit seed extract along with Oregamax that’s diluted in water.

Further, it’s important to note that if you are getting persistent yeast infections, this can be associated with other diseases such as diabetes so it would be best to consult your doctor about it and have it thoroughly checked out.

So if you are a male and are noticing some of the symptoms listed above going on, don’t overlook the chance that you may have a yeast infection. While it’s likely not going to do much permanent damage, if not treated it can persist for a long period of time and could make you feel rather uncomfortable. Be sure to also discuss any occurrences of yeast infections, whether in yourself or with your partner, when you become aware of them so they can check themselves out as well to be sure they are not infected also.
